"That thing called pi is dope, how do I find the horizontal asymptote?"

the fourth year is a photo a school day chronicling a high school senior's year.
every photo is taken during a school day, with a point and shoot, cell phone, or something else completely.
started in 2009, the fourth year photo project was first helmed by ananta p, who managed to defy senioritis and see it through to his graduation. after ananta's departure, melissa l took the reins and added her shenanigans to thefourthyear. This year's photographer (and I use that term loosely, cause I have no experience in this area) is angelo c.
check all the photos out in the archive. unless you want to start from the beginning.

“He is part man, part panda. Today at the Open house for 8th graders, our usual photographer was unable to take a picture due to the fact that he became a bag man (the second of two brave souls who chose to don the costume today) for Ecology Club. Later, when he walked by the Asian Honor Society table (YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ASIAN TO JOIN!), his Asian-ness was revealed! Or he was attacked by a panda, not really sure.
Truely School Pride at its finest!
K.C.”
Thanks for the submission, KC!
h.o. - our senior class president, making my day.
This is one of the many reasons why I like doing the fourth year. It’s an honor.

At this point in the year, things grow monotonous.
It’s always the same, innit?
First period, second period, announcements, third period, fourth period, lunch, fifth period, sixth period, seventh period, and then going back home.
It can be maddeningly boring, so it’s always nice to see something break the monotony.
This is Sean. He’s a cool guy, voted best dressed in the Senior Superlatives.
It’s Lunar New Year, and I found his mandarin collared shirt (not really sure what it’s called) to be pretty awesome. I think people should dress like that more often. I mean, if I had a barong (look it up if you’re curious, it’s a traditional Filipino dress shirt), I’d rock it on senior honors night or graduation or something.

So yeah, it was Lunar New Year, earlier this week, and we had a special treat of seeing a dragon dance. I’m not sure if they did it last year, but I’m sure they did it two years before, and they had those foil swords and things. It was cool.
It was rather claustrophobic, and people crowded around the dragons themselves. I ended up just watching most of it through a person’s raised camera. Oh well.

Ah, yes. That bag monster costume. I posted about it one time, remember? I got to don this plastic robe. It was interesting, to say the least. But it was for the community open house, so I was helping to advertise our school’s Ecology club. It was pretty fun. Here’s L.B., wearing it before the shindig kicked off.
Oh, and while I was walking around in the bag suit, I noticed that there were these notes stuck on the plastic bags themselves. Notes like the one above. From our Howler, the school newspaper. They deliver… interesting messages.

Many of you might not know this, but our school has a quiz bowl team.
What’s that you ask?
Quiz bowl. It’s an organization that competes in tournaments to demonstrate well rounded knowledge of…. things. Think Jeopardy (or not).
But yes, the captain of the team, Franco (seen here with his awesome light up Iron Man shirt), has graduated. Really, he graduated early. So he’s pretty cool for coming on his spare time to school, just to help us out at quiz bowl.
And man, I can’t get tired of that shirt.
1/21/12 - Super Senior Saturday Post - Westside’s Ecology Club - Tree Planting
Who in their right mind would wake up at 7 in the morning on a Saturday to go plant some trees? A lot of people, actually. Though it was a dreary day, we still managed to have some fun.
Oh, and the mayor of Houston was there too. Who knew?
